Young Children's Programs

Playgroup

Parents and children, ages birth through preschool, get together every other Tuesday morning for socializing, sharing information and building friendships and a sense of community. Participation is open to non-temple members.

Temple Tots

Temple Tots is a program sponsored by the Sisterhood to involve children from birth through age 3 and their parents in Temple activities.   The program is held the first Sunday of each month October through June, from 10:45am-12:00pm.  Each month we explore a different Jewish holiday or Jewish theme through crafts, stories, and music.  It is an opportunity for young Temple families to meet each other, and is also open to non-Temple members.

For more information, contact Adrienne Kerbel at aakerbel@comcast.net.

Tot Shabbat

Shabbat Services for children ages 5 and under are held one Saturday per month at 9:00am in the Sanctuary.  Tot Shabbat provides a wonderful age-appropriate introduction to Jewish prayer through song and craft for the youngest members of our community.

During Tot Shabbat, children through age 5 and their families participate in a Shabbat service by reciting Shabbat prayers, singing songs, and marching around the sanctuary with musical instruments and plush Torahs. Participants also learn how to recite the Kiddush prayers over grape juice and Challah, and work on craft projects about Shabbat.  Older siblings are welcome to join.

Please mark your calendar ahead for future Tot Shabbat celebrations on the following dates:

Youth Groups

Junior Youth Group (JYG5/6 & Jr. BRATY)

TBA has two separate Junior Youth Groups. The 7th and 8th graders get together at least once a month to have fun and build closer friendships within the Temple community. Planning meetings give youth the opportunity to develop leadership skills they can carry with them to BRATY, the senior youth group. Youth group members play a role in such Temple events as the Purim carnival and service project; participate in exciting trips and activities and on occasion, share events with other Reform Temple youth groups.

Our JYG 5/6 grouping combines 5th and 6th graders in order to provide younger TBA members with experiences similar to those of Jr. BRATY members. Monthly events provide opportunities for youth to get to know their religious school classmates beyond the confines of the classroom. Both groups are also open to Jewish youth who are non-temple members.

BRATY (Brith Achim Temple Youth)

BRATY is TBA’s youth group for 9th through 12th graders. Monthly meetings and programs are designed to provide friendship, fun, informal Jewish education, and to promote a strong sense of belonging within the Temple. Social action is an important component of programming and includes service to the Temple and the community. BRATY is affiliated with the North American Federation of Temple Youth of the URJ. BRATY teens frequently get together with other Temple youth groups within the Philadelphia area. BRATY is open to non-temple members.
