Cantor Tifani Coyot
Spiritual Leader and Community Builder
Cantor Tifani Coyot is a captivating worship leader, inspirational teacher, and gifted performer who excels at building community through meaningful connections. With a cantorial ordination and dual Masters in Music and Education from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, she brings a wealth of experience to Temple Brith Achim. Her leadership is driven by a passion to make Judaism relevant and meaningful in the modern world.
Professional Journey
Cantor Coyot brings extensive leadership experience, having served as the Senior Cantor at two large synagogues: Temple Isaiah in Los Angeles and Temple Beth Am in Miami. Over her 12-year tenure at these institutions, she managed large staffs, supervised multiple departments, led development initiatives, and created innovative programming to engage diverse congregants. Her creative approach to Jewish life and worship has made her a recognized leader in contemporary Jewish music and community building.
Her professional contributions extend beyond the synagogue. She has served in numerous leadership roles for the American Conference of Cantors, the Union for Reform Judaism, and Hebrew Union College, where she also served as Cantor on the faculty at the Los Angeles campus. Her worship services and musical performances have been featured on Jewish Life Television.
As a member of the musical trio Kosi R'vayah (Hebrew for "my cup overflows"), Cantor Coyot collaborates with Gabriel Mann and Rabbi Jaclyn Cohen to create innovative Shabbat music. The group premiered their new compositions earlier this year, continuing her commitment to revitalizing Jewish musical traditions.
Educational Background
Born in Long Island, New York, and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cantor Coyot's dream of becoming a cantor was sparked during her Bat Mitzvah service. Her journey in Jewish leadership began early, as she was active in her synagogue youth group, NFTY PAR, and is an alumna of Camp Kutz.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Temple University with a B.A. in Jewish Studies and a minor in Vocal Performance. Her educational path took an international turn when she spent her junior year at University College London, studying in Europe's largest Jewish Studies department. It was in London where she met her husband, Loïc, who introduced her to French language, culture, and Liberal Judaism in France.
This connection to French Jewish life continues today, as she serves as an artist-in-residence and teacher at La Communauté Juive Libérale in Paris and is currently a faculty member at École Rabbinique de Paris.
